Good News Clubs reach into the homes of club children
You already know that we have 90 volunteers who form 12 teams going into public schools each week to hold Good News Clubs. You know that these 90 people tell boys and girls about Jesus through Bible stories, songs, Bible memory, games, and missionary sto-ries. But do you also know that the ministry of this team of 90 goes far be-yond an hour each week?
One team of Good News Club teachers takes food to homes of clubbers at holidays.
Another team channels clothing donations from a local church to their club children.
Many of our teachers take children in their clubs to church with them each week or to special events at their church.
Some clubs organize summer activities to reach out to their clubbers. One holds a 5-Day Club in a local park.
Some club teams have given monetary gifts to help out when there is a special need in a home.
Club staff have sponsored entire clubs to attend Camp Good News free of charge.
Teachers have visited sick children or family members in the hospital.
Many pray with parents weekly over heartaches, concerns and needs.
This past December, a local business contacted us saying they were looking for a family to gift with clothing and groceries at Christmastime. They wondered if we knew of anyone in our ministry who could especially benefit from their gifts. Just a few weeks before we had received an email from a mother of two boys who had faithfully attended Good News Club at Rainbow Elementary. Her boys had grown past the reach of our clubs and camps; she was out of work due to medical concerns; they had bills coming due; and she didn’t know where else to turn. We were thrilled to play a part in connecting this business and this family. They generously reached out to this family with clothes, groceries, and gifts.
I can’t help but think of how Luke says that Jesus was anointed with power and “went about doing good...for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38) I pray our Good News Club team would continue to have God’s power as they bring Jesus to the children and their families—and as they continue to go about doing good.
